From 1 April 2018, the fee for the IELTS test will be QAR 950. The new fee will come into effect on 1 April 2018 and all test registrations made on and from that date will be charged at the new rate.

We have been made aware of fraudulent websites pretending to be the British Council IELTS registration sites. Please be advised that they are not associated with us in any form. We are also not responsible for the content available on these websites.
To ensure your details are safe, please only book your test by clicking on the registration link here on this site or on the TakeIELTS website.
Before you enter your personal details, please check that you are using our secure online registration system. You can do this by making sure the website address starts with “https://”. In addition fraudulent sites may use incorrect spellings in the website address, so check that “British Council” is spelt correctly.

To register, simply follow our 8 steps below:
1. Read the information for candidates

2. Decide which version of the test is right for you

3. Check the IELTS test dates.
Use our Online Registration System to find up-to-date information about test dates and availability.
Please note: Your Listening, Reading and Writing test will be completed on the same day. Your Speaking test will take place on the same day, or up to a week before or after your main test day. You will receive notification in advance by email and/or SMS to confirm your test details
4. Register online
Use our Online Registration System to book your place on the test.
5. Prepare and send your documents
Please make sure you send us ALL of the following documents when you register for your test:
- Your valid identification document (Passport or valid national ID card-for Qataris only)
- Your passport (Non-Qataris Only)
The Passport should be valid on the day of the test. Candidate with invalid passport on the day of the test will not be allowed to take the exam and no refund or transfer will be given. Please note that you will not be allowed to enter exam hall without the original ID that you used during your registration.
6. Choose your payment method
The cost of sitting a test is 950 QAR You can pay for your test in one of the following ways:
- cash, credit or debit card at the British Council Qatar office
- pay online, you will find all details on the Online Registration System
- with a cheque made payable to the 'British Council'
Payment must be received within three days of your online booking otherwise your registration will be automatically cancelled.
7. Complete your registration
We need to receive all documents including your completed online application within three working days of your online registration. Unfortunately, if we do not receive documents within three working days your application will be cancelled.
We cannot process incomplete applications, so please make sure you have sent us all required documents.
Copies of your results
If you would like your results to be sent to universities or other educational institutions, please enter the relevant addresses in the appropriate fields on the online registration form. We can issue a maximum of five copies per student.
8. After you register
Registration Information Email: After registering, you will receive an email to state that your place has been reserved for the test. If you have not paid the test fee, you must complete the payment within three (3) business days of receiving the email. The British Council reserves the right to cancel your application if the payment has not been made within the stated period.
Document and Payment Check: Our examination department will check your identity document and payment information after you have completed registration. If your aforementioned identity document and payment have reached us, the examination department shall confirm your registration within 7 days of the test date.
Confirmation Email: When your registration has been approved, you will receive an email with the subject line “IELTS Test Confirmation” to confirm the completion of your registration. Once you receive this email, you can also access the Road to IELTS online preparation course. If you do not receive the confirmation email within 7 days, please contact us. We cannot guarantee your place at the test, if you do not receive the email but fail to contact us.
ID Document Rejection Email: If the identity document you uploaded during registration does not meet the criteria, your application shall be rejected and you will receive an email with the subject line “Your IELTS Test Application is on Hold – ID Document Rejected”. In this case, you must upload a valid identity document by clicking on the link in the email within 48 hours.
Test Location and Time Announcement: After the confirmation email has been sent, the location and time of the test, as well as the details on the speaking component, shall be announced by 18:00 on our website three (3) days before the test date.

- We will send you an email and/or SMS two days prior to test date to confirm all your test details including the test venue

IELTS is designed to be a fair test and your English language ability will be assessed objectively, regardless of any special needs that you may have. We can help you with any special arrangements you require for your test. Please contact us three months in advance of your test date to find out how you can apply for special arrangements.
If you want to request a refund, please read our refund policy prior to making a request. If you want to do this, please complete and submit a request for refund form along with the supporting evidence.
Candidates who request a postponement or cancellation of their test within 5 weeks of the test date will be charged the full fee (250 QAR) unless they are able to provide appropriate medical evidence to support their request. Medical evidence must be provided no later than 5 days after the test date.
If the candidate requests for a postponement or cancellation because of bereavement of a close family member or hardship/trauma – victim of crime, victim of a traffic accident, exemptions can be made provided valid evidence is presented.
Test day transfers
If you want to transfer to a different test date, you need to notify us at least five weeks prior to the test session you have registered for. To do this, please complete and submit a Request for Transfer Form below. The transfer fee is 225 QAR.
