Flatlands Remix Art exhibition as part of the British Festival 2015
David Batchelor’s drawings are often his ‘ideal’ imaginary sculptures: disembodied and defying gravity

The ‘Flatlands Remix’ exhibition showcased the work of David Batchelor in partnership with VCU Qatar and the Scottish Government.

Batchelor is a Scottish artist well known for pioneering abstract colour paintings and the exhibition brought his work to the Middle East for the first time. We aimed to showcase the UK’s strengths in contemporary arts and culture, forge new partnerships in Qatar and engage arts students. On April 21, David Batchelor gave a private tour and a public talk in the VCU Gallery to key stakeholders in Qatar’s arts and culture community and talked about his passion for colour, what inspired him to create 2D works after more than 15 years working with 3D objects and how the art scene in London has shifted since the 1990s.

The exhibition was on show from March 25 until April 21.

“I loved the positive energy pumping out of the exhibition which is full of vivid colours and new contemporary art works.” HE. Dr. Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, Minister for Culture, Arts and Heritage
