Qatar Research Excellence Workshop – Elevate Your Research in Three Days

Day 1: Proposal Development

Developing strong research proposals is a critical skill for securing funding and advancing research careers. This involves clearly defining a relevant research problem, aligning with funder priorities, and presenting a well-structured plan with feasible methods, timelines, and budgets. Effective proposals combine scientific rigor with persuasive writing and benefit from careful revision and feedback.

Day 2: Publishing in High-Impact Journals

Publishing in high-impact journals enhances research visibility and credibility. Success requires producing rigorous, novel research and presenting it through clear, well-structured writing tailored to the target journal. Researchers also need to understand the peer review process, select appropriate journals strategically, and respond effectively to reviewer feedback.

Day 3: Communicating Your Research Effectively

Effective research communication ensures that findings reach and influence diverse audiences, from academics to policymakers and the public. This includes presenting ideas clearly in writing and presentations, adapting messages for different audiences, and using digital platforms to increase reach. Strong communication skills help amplify research impact and open new collaboration opportunities.

We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting opportunity to sharpen your research skills, grow your network, and help shape the future of Qatar’s innovation ecosystem.

The British Council and Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council with the support of the British Embassy are jointly delivering Qatar Research Excellence Workshop, which targets early and mid-career researchers at Qatar’s universities.

Qatar Research Excellence Workshop is a professional development workshop series that focuses on developing excellent communication skills for international, multicultural contexts. The aim is to enhance the productivity of individual researchers, and, in turn, help strengthen the international reputation and ranking of the researcher’s employer.

The workshop is designed specifically for early and mid-career researchers, though certain aspects also benefit more experienced members of the research community. Qatar Research Excellence Workshop is not an English language course; participants should have a minimum of B2-level English to participate fully.

The workshop provides participants from all academic disciplines with insights, understanding and tools to communicate effectively in any situation or context. It is offered as a series of modules delivered through face-to-face workshops by experienced, quality-assured trainers.

The UK has recognised, through the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, that researcher training and development are essential to maintaining its status as a world leader in research.

In response, Vitae-UK experts in researcher communication skills training-produced the Researcher Development Framework (RDF) in collaboration with the higher education sector and other stakeholders. The RDF identifies attributes and behaviours of successful researchers and supports their development across the research community to help researchers maximise their careers.

Qatar Research Excellence Workshop was developed for the researchers in Qatar with consideration of the RDF. The workshop uses experiential learning methods. Participant input, reflection, activities, feedback, and review all enhance the learning experience.
